An enamel dial is glass powder fired onto a metal disc at around 800 degrees, layer by layer, and the numerals are painted and fired again; a flaw at any stage means starting over. Blancpain makes these in-house, and the white enamel Villeret with its painted Arabic numerals is the reference that shows the craft best. It does not yellow, fade or scratch the way a lacquered dial does.

Under it is calibre 6639A: three mainspring barrels in series for an eight-day reserve, a silicon balance spring, and a complete calendar with a moonphase, corrected through the under-lug pushers Blancpain uses so the case stays clean.

A complete calendar needs correcting at the end of short months; a watch that stops between wears needs correcting every time you pick it up. Eight days of reserve means the Villeret can sit for a working week and still be right, which is the point of pairing the two complications.
