Blancpain · Villeret · Ultraplate · red gold · blue dial · on Amazon

Blancpain’s plain dress watch, in gold and blue.

Villeret is the village Blancpain started in, in 1735, and the name of its classical line: round cases with a double-stepped bezel, applied Roman numerals and leaf hands, nothing on the dial it does not need. The Ultraplate is the thin one, here at 40mm in 18k red gold with a blue sunburst dial, gold numerals, a date at three and the calibre 1151 inside, an automatic with four days of reserve and a silicon balance spring. On a blue alligator strap. Sold on Amazon by an independent dealer.

The double-stepped bezel

Every Villeret has the same profile: a bezel cut in two steps, so the case reads as a thin ring on top of a thinner ring, and the polished gold catches light on both edges. It is the line’s signature, more than any dial detail, and it is what makes a 40mm gold watch look slim on the wrist. The lugs are short and curved, and the crown is small.

The dial keeps the same discipline. A sunburst finish in blue, the Roman numerals applied in gold and polished so they flash when the sunburst does not, leaf hands, a date at three with a gold frame, and the JB 1735 mark under twelve. Inside is the 1151, Blancpain’s thin automatic with two barrels for four days of running time and a silicon spring that shrugs off magnets.

Reading the listing

The listing is a title and a model number: Villeret Ultra Slim Rose Gold, Blue Dial 40mm, 6651-3640-55B. There are no spec rows and no description, so there is nothing to contradict, and the photograph matches the reference: red gold, blue dial, gold numerals, date at three, blue alligator. The calibre, reserve and water resistance here are Blancpain’s published figures for the 6651, not the dealer’s.

Whether the watch is new with Blancpain’s warranty is not stated in the rows we read; ask, and ask for the box and papers. Every figure here comes from the listing and from Blancpain’s published description, not from handling the watch.

Buying it on Amazon

This is a regular Amazon listing from an independent dealer, Luxor Watches on the day we read it, with Amazon’s 30-day return window; it is not a Luxury Stores pre-owned unit. The second button opens the live search for Villeret Ultraplates in case this one has sold.

Blancpain Villerets have resold for well under new and close to what pre-owned buyers paid, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.

Verdict

A red gold Villeret Ultraplate with a blue dial, on Amazon from a dealer: Blancpain’s thin classical watch with four days of reserve, for someone who wants a gold dress watch that is not from Geneva.

Strengths

  • Thin gold case with the double-stepped bezel that defines the line
  • Calibre 1151: four days of reserve, silicon balance spring
  • Blue sunburst and gold numerals; readable and quiet
  • Amazon’s return window on a dealer listing

Trade-offs

  • 30 metres; a dress watch
  • Condition and warranty not stated; ask
  • Listing has no specs or description; the title and model number are all there is
  • A date window on a dress watch is a matter of taste
