Breguet · Marine · Ref 5517BR/12/9ZU · new on Amazon
Breguet’s sports watch, with the sea engraved on the dial.
Breguet was appointed chronometer-maker to the French navy in 1815, and the Marine line is the house’s answer to a sports watch: a 40mm rose gold case with the fluted caseband and wave-shaped lugs, a silvered gold dial hand-engraved with a wave pattern, Roman numerals, a date at three, and calibre 777A with a silicon escapement inside. New from an independent dealer through Amazon.

Chronometer-maker to the navy
Louis XVIII appointed Abraham-Louis Breguet horloger de la Marine Royale in 1815, which made the firm responsible for the marine chronometers French ships navigated by. The Marine collection takes its name from that appointment and its dial from the sea: the 2017 generation is engraved with a wave pattern on a rose engine, then silvered.
Calibre 777A is Breguet’s modern automatic with a silicon escapement and balance spring, which do not need oil in the same way and shrug off magnets; the reserve is about 55 hours, and the movement is visible through a sapphire back.

Strap or bracelet
The Amazon table says bracelet; the listing photograph shows a brown leather strap with a rose gold pin buckle, and the 9ZU suffix is Breguet’s code for a leather strap, so read the strap from the photo. Breguet also sells the 5517 on rubber and on a gold bracelet under other suffixes.
Every figure here comes from the Amazon spec table and Breguet’s published specification for the reference, not from handling the watch. At 40mm and 100 metres it is the Breguet you can wear to the beach; it is still a gold watch, so treat it like one.

Buying it new on Amazon
This unit is listed new by an independent dealer through Amazon, with Amazon’s 30-day return window on top of the dealer’s warranty; read the warranty line on the listing, because Breguet’s own warranty runs from an authorised sale.
Gold Breguets resell below their retail price on the secondary market, which is why dealer stock like this sits on Amazon under boutique retail. Buy it for the dial. Nothing here is investment advice.
