The Chronoliner takes its name and its shape from Breitling’s 1950s and 60s watches for airline crews: a big case, a 24-hour bezel for a second zone, and a chronograph for the parts of a flight you time by hand. The 2015 version fitted a black ceramic bezel that will not scratch and a case that, at 46mm, was never meant to hide under a cuff.
Inside is Breitling Caliber 24, a COSC-certified automatic chronograph with an independent 24-hour hand. Set the hand to home time, read it against the bezel, and turn the bezel for a third zone.
Why the gold one is on Amazon
Breitling made the Chronoliner in steel, and in this 18k red gold case as the halo version. Gold Breitlings sell slowly at retail, dealers end up holding them, and that stock is exactly what independent dealers list on Amazon. This one is new, in stock, and the dealer offers Amazon’s 30-day return window.
What you get for the money is a discontinued reference with a solid-gold case the size of a small clock, on a strap. What you do not get is Breitling’s own warranty; the dealer’s limited warranty stands in for it, and the listing says so. Every figure here comes from the Amazon spec table and Breitling’s published specification, not from handling the watch.
Who this is for
Someone who wants a pilot’s chronograph that reads as jewellery, who has a wrist that can carry 46mm, and who would rather have a gold Breitling nobody else is wearing than a steel Navitimer everybody is.
If you want a Breitling chronograph that will hold its resale value best, that is the steel Navitimer B01; gold Breitlings trade below retail on the secondary market, and this is not investment advice.
