Every sport-watch brand has a racing edition and most of them add a tachymeter and call it done. Franck Muller’s Racing is louder: an orange ring inside the bezel, orange rubber on the crown guard and pushers, orange stitching on a perforated strap that copies a driving glove, and numerals outlined in white on black. The barrel case underneath is the standard V 45, so it still bows to the wrist and the strap still enters the case through a slot.

The chronograph is the FM 7000, Franck Muller’s decorated Valjoux 7750: running seconds at nine, thirty-minute counter at three, date at six, with about 42 hours of reserve. In steel the watch sits lighter than the gold Vanguards on this page and heavier than the titanium one; the orange is the reason to choose it.
