Spezimatic, and what came after

In 1969 the state-owned Glashütte watch combine, GUB, built a dive watch for the East German navy and rescue services, the Spezimatic Type RP TS 200, with a big luminous dial and a rotating bezel. Glashütte Original, the manufacture that came out of GUB after reunification, brought the shape back as the SeaQ in 2019: the same numerals and bezel proportions, with a ceramic insert, a sapphire back and the company’s own movement inside.

The Panorama Date is the bigger version with Glashütte Original’s signature big date, two discs on one plane so the numbers sit flush in one window at four. The calibre 36-13 runs four days on one barrel and uses a silicon balance spring. In this reference the bezel ring and the crown are red gold against a brushed steel case, and the grey dial keeps the whole thing quiet.
