Grand Seiko · Elegance · SBGJ249 Shosho · Hi-Beat GMT · on Amazon
The Shosho GMT. Early summer on the dial, a jumping hour underneath.
This is Grand Seiko’s travel watch in its summer dress: the SBGJ249 Shosho, one of the four-seasons Elegance GMTs, a 39.5mm steel case 14.1mm thick with a box sapphire, a pale blue-white dial with a rippling wave texture for the early-summer season the name refers to, applied markers, a blue 24-hour ring and a tempered-blue GMT hand, the date at three, on the steel bracelet with a push-button clasp. Inside is the calibre 9S86, the Hi-Beat 36,000 GMT with about 55 hours of reserve, an hour hand that jumps independently when you land and a date that follows it, rated plus 5 to minus 3 seconds a day. Splash resistant only. The least expensive Grand Seiko on this page, listed under Grand Seiko’s own price when we read it, from a marketplace dealer.

A traveller’s GMT, the Grand Seiko way
The 9S86 is the Hi-Beat 9S85 with a 24-hour hand added, and the useful part is how the hands are set: the local hour hand jumps in one-hour steps from the crown while the 24-hour hand keeps home time on the blue ring, and the date changes with the local hour, so you land, click the hour forward and you are done. Grand Seiko made four of these Elegance GMTs for the four seasons, each with a different dial texture; Shosho is the one for early summer, pale blue-white with a wave pattern like water under a light wind.
At 14.1mm it is the thickest watch here, the price of a 36,000 vph GMT with a box crystal; the 39.5mm case and 46.9mm lug to lug keep it wearable.

Reading the listing
The listing carries the reference SBGJ249 in the title and model row and calls it the Elegance GMT Shosho Summer Dial with a calibre 9S86, 39.5mm, 14.1mm, sapphire and a steel bracelet, rated 30 metres. The photograph shows the wave dial, blue 24-hour ring, blued GMT hand, date and bracelet. The lug to lug, beat rate, reserve, accuracy, GMT mechanism, weight, splash resistance and list price are Grand Seiko’s published figures.
The dealer is Luxor Watches, a marketplace dealer, and the rows we read do not state whether the watch is new with Grand Seiko’s warranty card; ask, and ask for the box and the card. Nothing here was measured on the watch.

Buying it on Amazon
This is a regular Amazon listing from a marketplace seller with Amazon’s 30-day return window; it is not a Luxury Stores pre-owned unit and the seller has not published a condition. The second button opens the live search for Grand Seiko GMTs in case this one has sold.
Grand Seikos have resold for under new and close to what pre-owned buyers paid, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.

FAQ
The 9S86 lets the local hour hand jump in one-hour steps from the crown while the 24-hour hand holds home time against the blue ring; the date follows the local hour. It is the traveller’s type of GMT, not the caller’s type.
