IWC · Pilot’s Watches · Performance Chronograph 41 · AMG · titanium · on Amazon

The IWC pilot chronograph that went to the race track.

IWC has built watches with Mercedes-AMG since 2004, and the Performance Chronograph 41 AMG is the current one: the Pilot’s Watch chronograph case at 41mm in titanium, a black ceramic bezel carrying a tachymeter scale instead of the pilot’s plain ring, a black dial with white luminous numerals and hands, three counters and a day-date at three, on a black rubber strap. Inside is IWC’s in-house calibre 69385, a column-wheel chronograph running about 46 hours, rated to 100 metres. Sold on Amazon by a marketplace dealer.

Pilot case, tachymeter bezel

IWC’s Pilot’s Watch Chronograph is the company’s bread and butter: a black dial with big white numerals, a triangle at twelve, and a soft-iron inner case against magnetism, a layout that goes back to the wartime navigator’s watches. The Performance Chronograph 41 keeps that dial and swaps the plain bezel for a black ceramic ring with a tachymeter, so the watch can time a lap as well as a leg, and puts the whole thing in titanium to keep the weight down.

The 69385 is IWC’s own chronograph movement with a column wheel and a bidirectional pawl winding system, and it shows through the sapphire back. The AMG connection is the reason for the black-on-black colourway and the rubber strap; the mechanics are the standard Performance Chronograph.

Reading the listing

The dealer’s description is a short spec list: black dial, titanium case, black rubber band, automatic, 100 metres, fixed bezel, sapphire, transparent caseback, tang clasp, 41 by 14.7mm, IW388305. It matches the photograph except in one place: it says black hands, and the hands in the photograph are white and luminous, which is how IWC makes this reference. The Amazon rows carry weight and the reference only. The calibre and reserve here are IWC’s published figures, not the dealer’s.

Whether the watch is new with IWC’s warranty is not stated in the rows we read; ask, and ask for the box and papers. Every figure here comes from the listing and from IWC’s published description, not from handling the watch.

Buying it on Amazon

This is a regular Amazon listing from a marketplace dealer, Watchsavings on the day we read it, with Amazon’s return window; it is not a Luxury Stores pre-owned unit. The second button opens the live search for IWC Performance Chronographs in case this one has sold.

IWC pilot chronographs have resold for under new and close to what pre-owned buyers paid, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.

Verdict

A titanium IWC Performance Chronograph 41 AMG on Amazon from a dealer: the pilot chronograph with a tachymeter and the in-house 69385, and the only IWC on this page.

Strengths

  • In-house column-wheel chronograph, about 46 hours, 100 metres
  • Titanium and ceramic; light and scratch-resistant where it matters
  • Day and date and a tachymeter on a legible pilot dial
  • Amazon’s return window on a dealer listing

Trade-offs

  • 14.7mm thick; a tall watch for 41mm
  • Condition and warranty not stated; ask
  • Description says black hands; they are white, read the photograph
  • Rubber strap only; a bracelet is extra
