The De Ville Prestige is the Omega that does not try: a round gold case, a silver dial with Roman numerals, a date, a leather strap. This generation used the calibre 2500, the first Omega with George Daniels’s co-axial escapement, built on an ETA 2892 base, which is why the case is 9.75mm thin and the reserve 48 hours rather than the 60 of the later in-house calibres; it is COSC certified. Omega has since moved the Prestige to a Master Chronometer calibre and a new case, so this reference is marked no longer available.

Solid 18k red gold at about 77 grams on the strap, and 30 metres, which means keep it dry. What the dealer has is old stock or a pre-owned unit; the listing does not say which. The rows say 100 metres; the description and Omega say 30.

The listing carries the reference 424.53.40.20.02.001 in the title and model row and calls it a 39.5mm 18k rose gold automatic with a silver dial on a leather strap with a tang buckle; its 100-metre row is wrong and its description says 30. The photograph shows the red gold case, the silver dial with gold markers and Roman numerals, the date at three and the brown alligator strap. The thickness, lug width, lug to lug, weight, calibre, certification and reserve are Omega’s published figures for the reference.

The dealer is Luxor Watches, a marketplace dealer, and the rows we read do not state whether the watch is new with Omega’s five-year warranty; ask, and ask for the box and card. Nothing here was measured on the watch.
