This is the 2018 Seamaster Diver 300M in its second colour: a 42mm steel case, a black ceramic wave dial, a black ceramic bezel with a white enamel scale, rhodium-plated skeleton hands, the date at six, the helium valve at ten, on the steel bracelet with the diver extension in the clasp. Inside is the calibre 8800, a Co-Axial Master Chronometer certified by METAS, with about 55 hours of reserve and 300 metres on the case. Where the blue one is the poster watch, the black one is the one that goes with everything. The 2018 Seamaster, in black
Omega rebuilt the Seamaster Diver 300M for its 25th anniversary in 2018 and gave it back the wave dial of the 1993 original, laser-engraved into polished ceramic this time so it never fades. The bezel insert is ceramic too, with the diving scale in white enamel, and the movement is the 8800, a Master Chronometer tested by METAS for accuracy and for resistance to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. The helium valve at ten kept its place and got a conical shape; the date moved to six.
Black on steel is the same watch as the blue with the colour taken out: the waves are still there in the ceramic, the enamel scale is still white, the lume is still white, but the dial reads as a plain black diver from across a room. It is the Seamaster to pick if you already own something blue, or if you want the watch to disappear under a cuff and only announce itself when you look at it.
Reading the listing
The listing carries the full reference, 210.30.42.20.01.001, in the title and the model row, and the dealer’s description lists the black dial, steel case and bracelet, automatic movement, 300 metres, unidirectional bezel, a deployment clasp with push-button release and a 42mm case. The one figure that disagrees with Omega is the thickness: the dealer says 14mm, Omega publishes 13.56mm, and the copy here uses Omega’s. The calibre, its METAS certification, the reserve, the ceramic dial and bezel and the sapphire caseback are Omega’s published figures for the reference.
The seller is World Of Watches, a marketplace dealer, and the rows we read do not state whether the watch is new with Omega’s five-year warranty; ask, and ask for the box and card. It has 20 ratings on Amazon, one fewer than the blue when we read it, which says people are buying this one too.
