Apollo 17 launched on 7 December 1972 and its commander, Gene Cernan, was the last person to walk on the Moon. Omega issued this watch in 2017 for the 45th anniversary and made 272 of them, the number being the mission’s date written out. Cernan’s own words and the mission patch are engraved on the caseback.

Under the blue dial is the same hand-wound calibre 1861 family that flew on the Moon missions, which is why the case is only rated to 50 metres and why the crown has to be wound every couple of days. That is the point of a Moonwatch: it is a mechanical stopwatch first.
