The Speedmaster with a moon on the dial. Not the Moonwatch.

Omega makes a lot of Speedmasters and the names matter. The Moonwatch is the hand-wound 42mm chronograph with the hesalite crystal that went to the Moon. The Moonphase is a different watch: 44.25mm, automatic, with the calibre 9904, a column-wheel Co-Axial chronograph that also drives a pointer date and a moonphase disc, and that is certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS. The moon in the window at six is a photo-realistic print of the real thing, and Omega hid a tiny astronaut’s footprint on it.

The dial layout is unusual for a Speedmaster: one big counter at three combining the 12-hour and 60-minute registers, the date on a pointer in the sub-dial at nine, and the moonphase at six with the small seconds running over it. At 16.85mm it is a thick watch, but the boxed sapphire crystal and the curved lugs keep it from sitting like a puck.
