Yes. The Speedmaster Professional is the Moonwatch, the hand-wound chronograph that NASA flight-qualified in 1965 and that went to the Moon in 1969. The automatic Speedmasters (Racing, Moonphase, Dark Side) are different watches.

This is the Speedmaster Professional of the generation before the current one: the same 42mm asymmetric steel case, black dial, black tachymeter bezel and hesalite crystal, with the hand-wound calibre 1861 inside, the Lemania-based movement Omega used from 1996 until the 3861 replaced it in 2021, on a black alligator-pattern leather strap with a deployant clasp. Omega no longer lists the reference, which makes this a marketplace seller’s stock of the watch as it was, and it is the most-rated Speedmaster on Amazon, with 19 ratings when we read it. The 1861, and why people still want it

The Moonwatch is the Speedmaster Professional, the hand-wound chronograph NASA qualified for spaceflight in 1965 and Buzz Aldrin wore on the Moon in 1969. Its shape has not changed: a 42mm asymmetric steel case with twisted lyre lugs, a black tachymeter bezel, a black dial with three sub-dials, and a crown between two pushers. What Omega changes, every couple of decades, is what is inside and what is on top. From 1996 to 2021 the inside was the calibre 1861, a hand-wound cam-actuated chronograph built on the Lemania design that had powered the Moonwatch since 1968. It is not a Master Chronometer and it does not hack, but it is the movement in the watches that went to the Moon in all but name, and it is the one collectors mean when they say a proper Speedmaster.

This reference pairs it with the hesalite crystal and a leather strap with a deployant clasp, which makes it the lightest Moonwatch here at 83 grams. Omega stopped listing it when the 3861 arrived; this is a seller’s stock of the earlier watch.
