Why 1979
In 1979 Timex put a quartz movement in a diver-styled steel case with a rotating bezel and sold it as the Q Timex. The reissue reproduces that watch rather than reinterpreting it.
That is why the crystal is domed acrylic and not mineral glass, and why the bracelet is a woven steel band with a hatch in one link for the battery. Those are period details kept on purpose.
The Pepsi bezel
The bezel is split blue over red, the two-tone pattern collectors call Pepsi after the drink’s colours. It rotates. The numerals on it are painted, the edge is coin-grip, and it reads well against a navy dial with cream markers and an orange accent hand.
The window at three shows the day and the date. Timex fits its own quartz module, so there is no caliber number to quote, and no power reserve either. It runs until the battery needs changing.
What it is not
This is a quartz watch with a 50m rating. That covers rain, a splash and a shower. It is not a dive watch and the bezel is a styling cue as much as a tool.
Timex sells the reissue in several colourways under different references. The watch on this page is the navy Pepsi version. Check the reference on the listing before you buy, because the green Falcon Eye dial shares the case and the bracelet but not the look.
