The Lady-Datejust is the Datejust at 26mm, the size Rolex made for women from the 1950s until it moved the line to 28mm in 2015. It is the same watch in miniature: an Oyster case with a screw-down crown, an automatic chronometer movement, the date under its Cyclops lens at three, a fluted or engine-turned bezel, and a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet. Because Rolex made them for six decades in every dial and metal, the pre-owned market is deep and this is where the money goes when people search for a women’s Rolex.

A black dial with baton markers is the Datejust at its most readable and its most neutral, and on the 26mm case it stops the watch looking like jewellery. WGACA’s grading is the best of the four steel units here, light scratching on the caseback only, and the Y serial prefix puts it around 2002 to 2003.

WGACA gives the reference as 79174, the case as 26mm with a fluted bezel and sapphire crystal with a Cyclops, the dial as black with index hour markers, the bracelet as a steel Jubilee with an Oyster clasp, the serial as Y17xxxx, the circumference as 7.5 inches and the condition as Excellent with light scratching to the back of the case. It does not state box or papers. The white gold bezel, calibre, chronometer rating, reserve and 100 metres are Rolex’s published figures for the reference.
