Illustrative render — hero view of the Rolex Lady-Datejust 26 (18k gold, diamond bezel and lugs, red vignette dial)

Rolex · Lady-Datejust 26 · 69158 · pre-owned on Amazon

The gold Lady-Datejust, with the factory diamonds.

The 69158 is the Lady-Datejust Rolex dressed up itself: 18k yellow gold, a bezel of round diamonds, diamonds down the lugs, and here a red vignette dial that fades from claret in the centre to black at the edge, set with ten diamond markers. On the President bracelet with the hidden Crownclasp. Serial N, so about 1991. Pre-owned through a Luxury Stores reseller, graded Excellent.

Which Lady-Datejust this is

Rolex made the 26mm Lady-Datejust in a long ladder of references. The 69178 is plain gold with a fluted bezel; the 69138 adds a diamond bezel; the 69158 adds diamonds to the lugs as well, so the whole front of the watch is set. All of it is factory work, which matters, because a Datejust with aftermarket diamonds is worth a fraction of one Rolex set itself.

The vignette dial is the rarer part. Rolex made these degradé dials in a few colours in the late 1980s and 1990s, red among them, with diamond markers in place of batons. The centre reads claret under a lamp and near-black in the shade, and the ten diamonds sit where the batons would be, with the date window at three.

Reading the listing

The seller gives the serial prefix as N, which Rolex used around 1991, and the bracelet as the President with the hidden Crownclasp, which is the bracelet Rolex fitted to the gold Lady-Datejust of this level. The circumference is 7 inches. The condition line says Excellent with light tarnishing to the back of the case and light scratching to the hardware, which is normal for thirty-year-old gold that has been worn.

Papers and box are not mentioned, so assume neither. Every figure here comes from the listing and from Rolex’s published description of this generation of the Lady-Datejust, not from handling the watch.

Buying it pre-owned on Amazon

Rolex is pre-owned only on Amazon. This unit is sold by What Goes Around Comes Around through Amazon Luxury Stores, authenticated by the seller with Amazon’s 30-day return window on top; it is one piece, and when it sells the listing goes away, so the second button opens the live search for Lady-Datejusts.

Factory-set gold Datejusts have resold close to what people paid for them for decades, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.

Verdict

A factory-diamond gold Lady-Datejust with a red vignette diamond dial on the President, pre-owned on Amazon: the Datejust at its dressiest, from the year it was made that way.

Strengths

  • Factory diamond bezel and lugs on a solid 18k gold case
  • Red vignette dial with diamond markers, a rarer dial than the plain ones
  • President bracelet with the hidden Crownclasp
  • Amazon’s return window on top of the seller’s authentication

Trade-offs

  • 26mm; small on most wrists by today’s standards
  • About 1991; service history not stated
  • One unit; when it sells, it is gone
  • No box or papers mentioned

Buy it if

Someone who wants the full-gold, factory-diamond Lady-Datejust with a dial that is not another white or champagne, on a bracelet that reads as jewellery.

Skip it if

You want a larger Datejust, a steel one, or a plain dial you can wear every day without thinking about it.

FAQ

Both are 26mm gold Lady-Datejusts with a factory diamond bezel. The 69158 also has diamonds set into the lugs; the 69138 has plain gold lugs.
