The Datejust 36 is the watch Rolex built its reputation on: the first self-winding wristwatch with a date that changed at midnight, launched in 1945, and made ever since in a 36mm Oyster case with a screw-down crown, an automatic chronometer movement, the date under its Cyclops lens at three, a fluted, smooth or engine-turned bezel, and a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet. Because Rolex made it for eight decades in every dial and metal, the pre-owned market is deep and this is where the money goes when people search for a Rolex that is not a Submariner.

Rebag’s Good grade means visible wear, and on a steel Datejust that is usually a bracelet that has stretched a little and a case with desk marks; the crystal scratches it notes are the thing to ask about, since a sapphire crystal only marks from something harder than steel and a replacement is a Rolex service job. Priced right, a Good steel Datejust is the one you wear without worrying; the concentric silver dial is one of the 116200’s quieter faces.

Rebag gives the size as 36 and the condition as Good with minor scratches on the crystal and scratches and wear on case and band, and no reference, dimensions or accessories. The smooth bezel, concentric silver dial and Oyster bracelet are from the photograph; the 116200 match and its calibre are Rolex’s figures for the reference it appears to be.
