Rolex’s own quartz
When quartz arrived in the 1970s Rolex did not buy a movement in; it spent five years building one. Calibre 5055 was a chronometer-certified quartz with a proper gear train and a thermocompensated circuit, finished like a mechanical calibre, and it went into a new angular case with an integrated bracelet that borrowed nothing from the Oyster Perpetual line. Rolex made the Oysterquartz until about 2001 and then stopped, and the total run across all references is usually put at around 25,000 pieces.
The Day-Date version, reference 19018 in yellow gold, is the rarest of the common ones: the day spelled out at twelve, the date at three, and the fluted bezel, on a bracelet that is part of the case.
What the listing says, and what it gets wrong
The seller describes an automatic movement. The title says Oyster Quartz, the reference is 19018, and the dial in the photographs reads OYSTERQUARTZ, so quartz is what this is; the description is a template error. The condition is Excellent with light scratching throughout, and the box and papers are included, which on a discontinued Rolex is the difference between a watch and a collector’s watch.
