The blue two-tone Submariner.

Why the Bluesy

Rolex has made a two-tone Submariner since the 1980s, and the blue one has always been the one people mean when they say two-tone Sub. The 116613LB of 2009 gave it the ceramic bezel, the maxi case with broader lugs and crown guards, the larger markers and hands, and the Glidelock clasp; it ran until the 126613LB replaced it in 2020 with a slightly slimmer case and the calibre 3235.

The mix of metals is Rolesor: steel where the watch takes knocks, gold where it shows. The bezel insert is ceramic, so the blue does not fade the way the old aluminium inserts did, and the numerals are gold filled into the ceramic.

Reading the listing

REKLAIM grades this unit Pristine and says it has been professionally serviced and polished. A polish on a Submariner is normal and usually welcome, but a heavy one softens the edges of the lugs; the photographs show crisp lines. REKLAIM’s boilerplate says box and papers are authentic when included, which means you should ask before assuming either is in the box.

Every figure here comes from the listing and from Rolex’s published description of the 116613LB, not from handling the watch.

Buying it pre-owned on Amazon

Rolex is pre-owned only on Amazon. This unit is sold by REKLAIM through Amazon Luxury Stores, inspected and authenticated by the seller with Amazon’s 30-day return window on top; it is one piece, and when it sells the listing goes away, so the second button opens the live search for Submariners.

Two-tone Submariners have resold close to what people paid for them for a long time, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.

Verdict

A serviced, Pristine-graded blue two-tone Submariner Date on Amazon: the Submariner with gold on it, in the generation with the ceramic bezel and the Glidelock clasp.

Strengths

  • Ceramic bezel and maxi case, the modern Submariner build
  • Gold bezel, crown and centre links on a steel body that takes the knocks
  • Calibre 3135, one of the most serviceable movements Rolex has made
  • Amazon’s return window on top of the seller’s authentication

Trade-offs

  • Two-tone is a look; plenty of buyers only want steel
  • Polished; ask how heavily
  • Box and papers not confirmed
  • One unit; when it sells, it is gone

Buy it if

Someone who wants the Submariner as a dress-and-dive watch with gold on it, and would rather have the ceramic generation than the older aluminium-bezel two-tones.

Skip it if

You want the all-steel Submariner, or the current 126613LB with the newer calibre.

FAQ

The 126613LB of 2020 has a 41mm case, the calibre 3235 with about 70 hours of reserve and a slightly wider bracelet. The 116613LB is 40mm with the calibre 3135 and about 48 hours. The look is almost identical.
