Tudor launched the Black Bay Ceramic in 2021 as two firsts at once. The case is matte black ceramic, harder than steel, so it will not pick up the hairline scratches that show on a polished dive watch after a year, and the colour goes all the way through. And the movement inside, the MT5602-1U, was Tudor’s first to be certified by METAS as a Master Chronometer, the Swiss federal standard that tests the finished watch for accuracy, magnetism to 15,000 gauss and water resistance rather than the bare movement.

The rest is the Black Bay formula: a black dial with cream lume, the snowflake hand Tudor has used on its divers since 1969, a 60-minute bezel, no date, and 200 metres. The hybrid strap is leather on the outside and rubber underneath, and the fabric strap in the box is the one Tudor weaves on jacquard looms.
