Steel and gold, and the MT5813

S&G is Tudor’s shorthand for steel and gold: a steel case with a solid yellow gold bezel, crown and, on the chronograph, pushers. On the Black Bay Chrono S&G the bezel is solid 18k yellow gold with a black aluminium tachymeter disc, and the black dial with gilt-edged counters picks it up. It is the dressiest Black Bay Chrono, and on a strap it costs less than the steel one on a bracelet.

The MT5813 inside is the Breitling 01 rebuilt to Tudor’s spec, the calibre Breitling and Tudor exchanged in 2017 for Tudor’s MT5612; it is a column-wheel, vertical-clutch chronograph with 70 hours of reserve, and it is why the Black Bay Chrono is 14.4mm thick. The fabric strap is the lightest way to wear it and the cheapest way to buy it.

Reading the listing

The listing carries the reference M79363N-0003 in the title and model row and calls it a 41mm automatic chronograph with 200 metres, a black dial and a fabric band. The photograph shows the gold bezel, crown and pushers, the two-counter dial and the fabric strap. The thickness, lug width, calibre, COSC certification and reserve are Tudor’s published figures for the reference.

The seller is Luxor Watches, a marketplace seller. Ask the seller whether it is new with Tudor’s five-year guarantee card, and for the box; the rows we read do not say. Nothing here was measured on the watch.

Buying it on Amazon

This is a regular Amazon listing from a marketplace seller with Amazon’s 30-day return window; it is not a Luxury Stores pre-owned unit and the seller has not published a condition. The second button opens the live search for Black Bay Chronos in case this one has sold.

Black Bay Chronos have resold for under new and close to what pre-owned buyers paid, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.
