Why the Pelagos and not the Black Bay
The Black Bay is Tudor’s vintage-flavoured diver; the Pelagos is the modern one. Titanium instead of steel, so it is lighter than it looks; 500 metres instead of 200; a helium valve; a ceramic bezel that glows all the way round; and a clasp Tudor patented, with a spring inside that lets the bracelet stretch over a compressing wetsuit and shrink back, plus a ratchet for fine adjustment. The dial is the plainest Tudor makes, blocks and a snowflake hand, and that is the point.
The MT5612 inside is Tudor’s own movement with a date, a silicon balance spring, a COSC certificate and about 70 hours of reserve, so it runs through a weekend off the wrist. At 14.3mm it is not thin, but the titanium keeps it from feeling heavy.
