The Ranger. Tudor’s field watch, and its cheapest manufacture movement.

Field watches are usually the cheap end of a catalogue, with bought-in movements and a strap. The Ranger is Tudor’s field watch built the expensive way: the MT5402 inside is the same in-house chronometer that runs the Black Bay 58, with a silicon balance spring and about 70 hours of reserve, and the case is all satin steel with a screw-down crown and 100 metres. The dial copies Tudor’s 1960s Ranger, with the big beige numerals and the red-tipped seconds hand.

At 39mm and 12mm it is the flattest Tudor with a manufacture movement, and the T-fit safety catch on the bracelet lets you adjust the fit without tools. Tudor also sells it on a fabric strap and a hybrid rubber strap; this listing is the bracelet.

The listing carries the full reference, M79950-0001, in the title and the model row, and calls it an automatic with a black dial in steel. The photograph shows the smooth bezel, the beige numerals, the red-tipped seconds hand, no date and the three-link bracelet. The case size, thickness, lug width, calibre, COSC certification, reserve, 100 metres and the T-fit catch are Tudor’s published figures for the reference.

The seller is Watchsavings, a marketplace seller, and the rows we read do not state whether the watch is new with Tudor’s five-year guarantee; ask, and ask for the box and card. Nothing here was measured on the watch.
