Why a tourbillon
Breguet patented the tourbillon in 1801 to cancel the effect of gravity on a pocket watch that spent its life upright: the escapement is mounted in a cage that rotates, so its errors average out. On a wrist it does little for accuracy and everything for the view; a flying tourbillon, held from below only, gives the clearest view of all.
Ulysse Nardin’s UN-171 is a hand-wound movement with a silicon escapement and a mainspring good for about a week, built as a rectangular frame so that the skeleton dial reads as architecture rather than as a movement with holes in it.
Titanium and ceramic
The Executive case is 45mm in titanium with a black ceramic bezel and the notched bezel edge Ulysse Nardin used across the line, on a black strap with a folding clasp. Titanium keeps a 45mm case light, and the open dial keeps it from looking as big as it is.
