Ulysse Nardin’s Skeleton X strips the movement to a rectangle held by an X of bridges, finished in blue and set in a 42mm rose gold case with a blue bezel. The UN-371 inside is hand-wound, runs four days on a full wind, and uses a silicon escapement and balance spring; the big balance wheel sits at six where a tourbillon would be on the dearer version. The X
Ulysse Nardin launched the Skeleton X in 2019 as the affordable end of its skeleton line: the same rectangular movement frame as the Skeleton Tourbillon, but with a big oversized balance at six instead of the tourbillon cage, which cut the price by more than half. The bridges form an X across the movement, and on this version they are finished in blue against the rose gold case.
The UN-371 is hand-wound, which keeps the back of the movement as open as the front; a full wind lasts about four days. The escapement and balance spring are silicon, which Ulysse Nardin was the first house to put in a wristwatch, in the Freak of 2001.
Rose gold and blue
The Skeleton X comes in titanium, black DLC, carbon and this rose gold version with the blue bezel and blue movement finish. Gold adds weight to a 42mm case but the open dial keeps it from reading heavy. The Amazon table says automatic; the UN-371 is hand-wound, so wind it every few days and ignore that line.
