Ulysse Nardin · Executive · Skeleton X · titanium · blue · on Amazon

A movement drawn as an X, with nothing in front of it.

Ulysse Nardin’s Skeleton X has no dial. The calibre UN-371 is built as a rectangle inside a round case, with the barrel at twelve, the balance at six and four bridges running to the corners in an X, and the whole thing sits in the open under the crystal with only a ring of Roman numerals for company. It is hand-wound, runs about four days, and uses silicon for the escapement and the balance spring. This one is the 42mm titanium case with a blue bezel, a blue frame around the movement and a blue rubber strap. Sold on Amazon by an independent dealer.

Why it is hand-wound

An automatic movement carries a rotor, a half-disc of metal that swings over the back of the calibre, and on a skeleton watch that rotor covers the view from one side. Ulysse Nardin built the UN-371 without one: you wind it by the crown, it holds about four days, and both faces of the movement stay clear. The X of bridges is not decoration; it is what holds the wheels in place once the plates are cut away.

The silicon parts are the other reason it works as a daily watch. Ulysse Nardin was the first to put silicon in a series-production movement, in 2001, and the Skeleton X uses it for the escapement and the balance spring, so the exposed mechanism does not care about magnets. In titanium with the blue frame the watch is light for its size and the blue is the only colour on it.

Reading the listing

The listing is a title and a model number: Executive Skeleton X 42mm, 3713-260-3/03. There are no spec rows and no description, so there is nothing to contradict, and the photograph matches the reference: titanium case, blue bezel, blue frame, blue rubber strap. The calibre, winding, reserve, silicon parts and water resistance here are Ulysse Nardin’s published figures for the Skeleton X, not the dealer’s.

Whether the watch is new with Ulysse Nardin’s warranty is not stated in the rows we read; ask, and ask for the box and papers. Every figure here comes from the listing and from Ulysse Nardin’s published description, not from handling the watch.

Buying it on Amazon

This is a regular Amazon listing from an independent dealer, Luxor Watches on the day we read it, with Amazon’s 30-day return window; it is not a Luxury Stores pre-owned unit. The second button opens the live search for Skeleton Xs in case this one has sold.

Ulysse Nardin skeletons have resold for well under new and close to what pre-owned buyers paid, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.

Verdict

A titanium Skeleton X with the blue frame, on Amazon from a dealer: the same open UN-371 as the rose gold version on this page, in the metal that makes it a watch you can wear every day.

Strengths

  • Fully open hand-wound movement, no rotor in the way, about four days of reserve
  • Silicon escapement and balance spring; magnets do not matter
  • Titanium and rubber keep a 42mm watch light
  • Amazon’s return window on a dealer listing

Trade-offs

  • Hand-wound; you wind it, or it stops after four days
  • Hard to read at a glance on an open movement
  • Condition and warranty not stated; ask
  • 50 metres; not a swimmer

Buy it if

Someone who wants to watch a movement work and does not want gold to do it.

Skip it if
