Two displays, one module
The top of the dial is analogue, with luminous hands and applied markers. The bottom third is an LCD that shows the time again, plus the day and date. That redundancy is the point: a glance gives you the time from the hands and the date from the screen without pressing anything.
Everything runs from module 5208. World time across 31 zones, five daily alarms, two interval timers, a 1/100-second stopwatch and an LED light are all in there, controlled by four side buttons rather than a crown.
Tough Solar
Casio’s solar system charges a rechargeable cell from any light that reaches the dial. Under normal wear it never needs a battery change, which on a resin sports watch is the difference between keeping it and replacing it.
The 100m rating covers swimming and snorkelling. Combined with a resin case, a resin band and a mineral crystal, it is a watch that can be worn hard without any part of it being precious.
Big case, light watch
Casio lists the case at 52.2mm long, 48.3mm wide and 13.7mm thick. Those are large numbers, and the watch has the presence of a G-Shock. What it does not have is the weight: at about 39.5 grams it is lighter than most steel dress watches.
That combination, big and light, suits sport and outdoor use and does not suit a shirt cuff. The day-of-week display in six languages is a small feature that travellers and language learners tend to notice.
