Multi-Band 6 means the watch can receive a time signal from any of six atomic-clock transmitters, covering the US, the UK, Germany, Japan and China. It listens overnight, corrects itself, and shows a reception indicator so you know it managed.

Combined with a world-time function, that gives you a watch that is correct in most of the places you are likely to fly to, without ever touching the ADJ button. It also has a stopwatch, a countdown timer and an alarm, as a G-Shock should.

Tough Solar is Casio’s name for a solar cell under the display feeding a rechargeable cell. G-Central records about nine months of running from a full charge with no further light, which is the figure that matters: it means a drawer is not a death sentence.

There is a full-auto EL backlight, which lights the display when you tilt your wrist in the dark. That draws power, and it is the one feature worth turning off if you want the charge to last.

The case is black resin, but the bezel is a brushed stainless steel ring set into it. That is what separates this watch at a glance from the all-resin squares and what gives it a heavier, more finished look on the wrist.

It is not a small watch. Casio quotes 56.8mm lug to lug, 46mm wide, 16.6mm thick and 67 grams. The metal-cased MTG-M900DA on this site shares the exact same case dimensions at more than double the weight. Our figures come from Casio’s specification, not from measuring a unit.
