The plating
This is not gold. It is stainless steel with a yellow gold-tone plating over the case, the coin-edge bezel, the crown and the guards, with gold-tone hands and markers on a black dial to match. Invicta describes it that way and the reference photo agrees.
Plating on a dive watch is a style decision, not a durability one. It will wear at the high points over years of knocks, which is the trade for a gold sports-watch look at a price where solid gold is not a conversation.
Same movement, new clothes
Underneath, the 23681 is the 8926OB. The movement is the Seiko NH35A-based automatic Invicta calls IM-A-005, with the same 24 jewels, 21,600 vph beat, hacking, hand-winding and roughly 41-hour reserve. The exhibition caseback shows it working.
The strap is where the two diverge. The 23681 comes on a black silicone diver’s strap with a tang buckle rather than a steel bracelet, which makes it lighter, more casual and easier to size at home.
100m or 200m
Invicta’s own product page lists the 23681 at 200m of water resistance. Our catalogue entry carries 100m, and some third-party listings repeat that lower figure. We show both rather than pick one.
For buying purposes the difference is between swimming and recreational diving. If the higher rating matters to you, the manufacturer is the more authoritative source, and the screw-down crown and 20mm silicone strap are the same as on the steel model. Nothing here has been measured or tested by us.
