Solar watches are usually sold on convenience. Seiko puts numbers on it. The V157 runs for approximately ten months on a full charge and holds ±15 seconds a month, per Seiko’s own page. Set it once, wear it, and it stays right through the year.
There is no battery to book a change for and no rotor to keep spinning. Daylight, desk light and lamplight all count.
The bezel
The bezel is unidirectional, blue over the top half and red over the bottom, with a white scale and a lumed pip at twelve. It sits over a dark navy dial that reads close to black in most light, with round lumed markers and a lumed triangle at twelve.
Seiko fits a sapphire crystal here, where the SNE585 and the Tuna make do with Hardlex. That is the single biggest reason to pick this one over its siblings.
