TAG Heuer · Carrera Chronograph 41 · Calibre 16 · ceramic bezel · on Amazon

The 41mm Carrera Calibre 16. The racing Carrera in the wearable size.

This is the Carrera Calibre 16 in the 41mm case: a black ceramic tachymeter bezel, a black sunray dial with three counters, red accents and a date at three, on the steel H-link bracelet. Inside is the Calibre 16, TAG Heuer’s automatic chronograph on the ETA 7750 base, with about 48 hours of reserve; the case is rated to 100 metres and has a plain steel caseback. It is three millimetres smaller than the 44 and, when we read the listing, priced under TAG Heuer’s own figure, which makes it the least expensive TAG Heuer on this page. Sold on Amazon by a marketplace dealer.

Smaller, thicker, cheaper

The Carrera is Heuer’s racing chronograph of 1963, designed by Jack Heuer for drivers who needed to read a chronograph at a glance: a clean dial, big counters and the minute track pushed out to the flange so nothing gets in the way. TAG Heuer has made it in every size and movement since, and the current line splits into the 44mm sport chronographs with the tachymeter bezel and the smaller glassbox watches that look back at the 1960s.

The 41mm case is the one most wrists want, and the Calibre 16 inside is the same 7750-based automatic chronograph as the 44: cam-actuated, about 48 hours, serviceable anywhere. What the smaller case does not do is get thinner, because the 7750 is a tall movement; at 16.23mm it is thicker than the 44mm Heuer 02 watch. The ceramic bezel, the sunray dial and the red accents are the same racing kit as the bigger Calibre 16.

Reading the listing

The listing carries the full reference, CBM2110.BA0651, in the title and the model row, and the dealer’s description lists the Calibre 16, the black dial and sub-dials, the polished and brushed steel case and the black ceramic tachymeter bezel. The photograph shows the counters, the date at three and the H-link bracelet. The reserve, thickness, lug width, 100 metres and the plain steel caseback are TAG Heuer’s published specifications for the reference; the ETA 7750 base is the published basis of the Calibre 16.

The dealer is Luxor Watches, a marketplace dealer, and the rows we read do not state whether the watch is new with TAG Heuer’s warranty; ask, and ask for the box and card. Nothing here was measured on the watch.

Buying it on Amazon

This is a regular Amazon listing from a marketplace seller with Amazon’s 30-day return window; it is not a Luxury Stores pre-owned unit and the seller has not published a condition. The second button opens the live search for Carreras in case this one has sold.

Carreras have resold for under new and close to what pre-owned buyers paid, sometimes more, sometimes less; that is a pattern, not a promise, and nothing here is investment advice.

Verdict

The 41mm Carrera Calibre 16 with the black ceramic bezel on the bracelet, the least expensive TAG Heuer on this page and under TAG Heuer’s list price when read, from a marketplace dealer with the reference on the listing.

Strengths

  • 41mm; the size most wrists want
  • Black ceramic tachymeter bezel; steel bracelet
  • The lowest TAG Heuer price on this page, under list when read
  • Full reference on the listing; Amazon’s return window

Trade-offs

  • Condition and warranty not stated by the dealer; ask
  • 16.23mm thick; the 7750 is a tall movement
  • Calibre 16, about 48 hours, not the in-house 80-hour calibre
  • Plain steel caseback; no view of the movement

FAQ

TAG Heuer’s name for its automatic chronograph on the ETA 7750 base: cam-actuated, 28,800 vph, about 48 hours of reserve. Robust and easy to service; the in-house Heuer 02 / TH20-00 in the pricier Carreras has a column wheel and 80 hours.
