The Carrera is Heuer’s racing chronograph of 1963, designed by Jack Heuer for drivers who needed to read a chronograph at a glance: a clean dial, big counters and the minute track pushed out to the flange so nothing gets in the way. TAG Heuer has made it in every size and movement since, and the current line splits into the 44mm sport chronographs with the tachymeter bezel and the smaller glassbox watches that look back at the 1960s.

The Heuer 02 is the movement that made the 44mm Carrera a serious chronograph: TAG Heuer’s own column-wheel calibre with a vertical clutch, so the seconds hand starts without a stutter, and about 80 hours of reserve, so it runs through a long weekend. The green sunray dial arrived in 2020 and became the colour people ask for; the steel bezel keeps the tachymeter readable and the black crown is the one dark note on the case.
