Rolex introduced the Datejust in 1945 as a self-winding, waterproof chronometer that showed the date in a window on the dial; the magnifying Cyclops lens over the date followed in the 1950s.
Today it comes mainly in 36 mm, the classic size, and 41 mm, with 31 and 28 mm versions; the fluted bezel and the five-link Jubilee bracelet are the looks people recognise.
Steel and two-tone ("Rolesor") Datejusts are among the easiest luxury watches to resell, which is why they suit a first big purchase.
